Széchenyi István University has launched a unique, English-taught Master’s programme in Motorsport Engineering, the only one of its kind in Central Europe. The inaugural cohort consists of eleven students who have recently commenced their studies. Among the faculty are several professionals with Formula 1 experience, as well as engineers from teams that have won world championships in other branches of motorsport.

Indian Collaboration: SZE Expands Its Offer with Double Degree Programme and Restaurant

Széchenyi István University and India's Integral University launched a two-year "International Economics and Business" double degree programme in September. The first cohort of the Master's programme includes 18 students from the South Asian country who, upon completion, will receive diplomas from both institutions. The students currently spending the semester in Győr can also enjoy familiar flavours from home, as from 1st March the University is expanding the menu of its Paneer restaurant, located in the ETO Park shopping centre, to include Indian dishes, which will be available to all.

Les Orres, France, recently hosted the 2024/2025 Hungarian University and College National Championship (MEFOB) in alpine skiing and snowboarding. As part of the Rural Development Programme of the Ministry of Agriculture, Széchenyi István University is developing the infrastructure related to dairy and medicinal herb processing at the Campus of Albert Kázmér Faculty Mosonmagyaróvár. The nearly one-billion-forint project includes the creation of a smart garden for educational, demonstration, and research purposes, the expansion of the dairy processing facility’s technology, and the implementation of demonstration programmes. Diseased trees that need to be removed will be replaced with fruit trees, medicinal and spice plants, as well as ornamental and garden trees.

The Apátúr Brewery, jointly owned by Széchenyi István University and the Benedictine Priory of Győr, is developing a product line of beers with flavours such as coffee, quince, Italian spices and grape. The unique branding for this line was created by the University’s graphic design students, and the design chosen by the jury may be featured on the bottles in the future.
SZE Strengthens Ties with a Drone Services Company

On 15 January, Széchenyi István University reaffirmed its longstanding partnership with Drónkuckó, a company offering comprehensive remote sensing services. The high-end, modern equipment donated by the technical distribution company Haberkorn Llc. to Széchenyi István University serves the practical education of students. Thanks to the collaboration, the Department of Vehicle Manufacturing and Technology at the institution now offers the first Item profile demonstration and practice laboratory in the country, consisting of thousands of components. This enables students to assemble the designed machines and workstations on their own.
SZE Architecture Students Win Special Prize at Polish Competition

Thanks to years of persistent work, the SZEnergy Team has reached the top: for the third time in a row since 2022, the team has won the energy-efficiency race of the Shell Eco-marathon European race in the Urban Concept category, and on all three occasions with world records, winning the trophy for the self-driving car category in the last two years. The team is not resting on its laurels, however, and is constantly improving its car to defend their title next year.

In the spring of 2024, Széchenyi István University in Győr and the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network entered into a strategic cooperation agreement to promote joint educational, research, and innovation activities within international networks. Széchenyi István University played a significant role in the success of ABZ Innovation Kft., a drone development company established three years ago in collaboration with a professional partner and an investment firm. The company’s market success stands as a testament to this partnership. At the end of November, the University sold a substantial portion of its ownership stake in the startup focused on drone development and manufacturing.

Chinese Students Explore Civil Engineering at SZE

Beyond the jointly launched English-taught Double Degree BSc Programme in Civil Engineering, the two institutions collaborate in educational, research, and corporate fields. Capturing Győr: A Lens on History and SZE

The concert hall of the Széchenyi István University, the former synagogue of Győr, is a multifunctional cultural space: it is home not only to the music programmes of the Faculty of Design and Performance Arts, but also to numerous exhibitions. In addition to the exhibition entitled Jewish Excellence, which opened in the summer, visitors can also view valuable Győr- and University-themed photographs taken by members of the Hungarian Photographers' Free University Association. The Automotive Industry Research Centre and the Győr Innovation Park of Széchenyi István University have been awarded the title of "Excellent Research Infrastructure", while the Innovation Park in Zalaegerszeg, as part of the Intelligent Vehicles Research Network, has been awarded the title of "Promising Research Infrastructure Network". This means that three of the research infrastructures certified by the National Research and Innovation Office (NKFIH) are part of the Győr-based institution.

The event, which attracted a record number of participants, began with a keynote address by Dr Lajos Mocsai, Professor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the Hungarian University of Physical Education and Sports Sciences.
