Fresher’s Ball Brings the Party of the Year to SZE
This year again, the Fresher’s and Alumni Ball was the most important autumn event for the students of Széchenyi István University, where more than a thousand students and alumni partied until dawn in the Győr City University Hall. After the swearing-in ceremony and the presentation of the first-year students' badges, György Korda and Klári Balázs, followed by the Suncity Brass, moved the participants, who then rocked to the NECC party's percussive sets until dawn.

Researchers from 12 Countries Gather for SZE’s Sustainability Conference
Last year, the International Conference on Sustainability (COS) of Széchenyi István University was launched with the participation of 150 speakers. 210 researchers and experts from 12 countries presented their research at this year's event, which took place from 6 to 9 November. Among the speakers were renowned scientists such as Dr Christopher Savoie, inventor of the artificial intelligence-based natural language technology used to develop Apple's Siri.
SZE Hosts the 20th International Symposium on Business Information Science
In 2003, the International Symposium on Business Information Science started in Győr, and twenty years later, it returned to Széchenyi István University. The focus of the jubilee programme was on artificial intelligence. SZE Signs Cooperation Agreement with 45-year-old Győr Ballet
Széchenyi István University and the Győr Ballet have signed a cooperation agreement in order to implement a career model for students of dance and to turn young people into dance-loving audiences. The long-term goal of the partnership between the institution and the company, which is 45 years old this year, is to create a regional dance training centre in the region.

THE Bridge Club Keeps the Beat Going: Concerts Every Weekend this Winter at SZE
Although the open-air season is over for this year, the period from October to April promises to be a busy one at the Bridge Student and Teacher Club of Széchenyi István University: the best Hungarian popular music performers will be playing weekend after weekend at the venue. Fans of rock, rap and alternative genres will be well catered for, but there will also be a boogie-woogie festival, a tribute band playing covers and a special Esti Egyenleg birthday party. Hungarian Satellite to Monitor Drought in Collaboration with SZE
A groundbreaking research initiative involving Széchenyi István University is underway, with the University playing a key role in a European Union project that deploys a satellite to monitor drought-prone regions across Hungary. SZE launches a unique Health Psychology Master's programme in the region
Széchenyi István University is launching a much-needed Master’s programme in Health Psychology in Western Hungary starting this February in a correspondence format, designed to address the region's demand in this field. The two-year programme, offered by the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, will commence in Hungarian in the spring semester, while an English-taught, full-time version will be available for international students from the autumn semester onward.

A former chess champion in Canada, he shook hands with Bill Gates as an intern, helped to develop his firm in Tokyo and London, and then helped establish the Budapest office. SZE Supports Graduation Success with "Mathematics 0" Course
At first glance, it might seem like an additional requirement, but the "Mathematics 0" course introduced by Széchenyi István University in several degree programmes from the spring semester serves to fill gaps in fundamental numeracy skills, thereby facilitating successful completion of foundational and professional subjects. Essentially, the institution offers free tutoring to students, allowing them to earn their degree in three and a half years with greater confidence, without incurring extra costs for themselves or their families.

SZE Students Triumph with Bosch×Richter Industrial Innovation Award
Two students from Széchenyi István University, Fanni Lőrincz and Balázs Szőnyi, have developed a solution based on artificial intelligence models that allows the user to talk to the device as if it were a living human being. Their aim was primarily to help socially isolated people and people with mental illnesses and to prevent the development of such illnesses. SZE Dragon Boat Team Secures Silver at National University Championships
The second round of the Hungarian University-College National Championship (MEFOB) dragon boat competition was held recently in Székesfehérvár. The team of Széchenyi István University performed very well once again, just like in the first round in Győr, and finished second overall in both the 200 and 2000 m races. Several competitors of the University of Győr are already preparing for the World Cup in China.
SZE Teacher Trains WorldSkills Championship Competitor in Automobile Technology
Péter Őri, a staff member of Széchenyi István University, prepared Bence Tánczos, a student of the Lukács Sándor Automotive and Mechanical Engineering Technical School in Győr, who won a medal of excellence in the Automobile Technology category at the WorldSkills World Championship of the world's best young professionals. A former Hungarian entrant in the competition, who is now a student of the Vehicle Engineering programme at the University, aided him as well.

In recognition of his outstanding professional work, Dr Tamás Dusek, head of the Doctoral School of Regional Sciences at Széchenyi István University, has recently received the Elek Fényes Award, the most prestigious award in the field of statistics. The professor at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics has been conducting research for nearly thirty years and continues to assist the Department of Statistics, Finance and Controlling as a lecturer.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the invention of the Rubik's Cube, world-famous inventor Ernő Rubik was the guest of Széchenyi István University and the Municipality of Győr on 12 September. The anniversary was celebrated with a Rubik's Cube competition and a panel discussion in the lobby of the Győr Innovation Park, in the building known as “The Cube”.

SZE Staff Member Becomes Dragon Boat World Champion, Invites Students to Join the Team
Péter Hegedűs, Head of Unit at the University Library and Archives of Széchenyi István University, won one gold and two silver medals at the 14th IDBF Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championship in Ravenna in September. Following his successful performance as a member of the medal winning team, he is now recruiting intensively as a coach to introduce the sport to new students and to encourage more of them to join the University team, which has achieved good results over the years.
Students Benefit from the Partnership between Mapei and SZE
Taking the already existing partnership to a new level, Széchenyi István University and Mapei Ltd., a manufacturer of chemical products for the construction industry, have signed a cooperation agreement. Former and Current SZE Students Celebrate Together at Albert Kázmér Faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár
Around 400 students started their studies at the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty of Széchenyi István University in September. This year, the number of first-year students has grown by nearly 65 percent, building on last year's 43 percent increase. This surge occurred despite the fact that programme entry thresholds remained unchanged or, in many cases, they were even raised. Students were welcomed at the Faculty's opening ceremony, where prestigious awards were also presented.
SZE Students Can Apply for Double Degree Programmes with Universities in Portugal, India, and Italy
This academic year, Széchenyi István University is launching three Double Degree Programmes with Portuguese, Indian and Italian universities, for which application is open to students until 15 September 2024. The four semester programmes include one and two semester stays abroad, for which substantial scholarship support is available.

SZE Welcomes Students to Aviation and Motorsport Engineering Programmes Starting Spring Term
From February 2025, Széchenyi István University, in cooperation with Wizz Air, is launching an Aviation Postgraduate Programme as well as a Motorsport Engineering Master Programme with the involvement of former and currently active Formula 1 engineers. SZE Partners with Wizz Air to Launch Aviation Postgraduate Programme in September
Széchenyi István University of Győr is launching an Aviation postgraduate programme in partnership with Wizz Air airline to prepare students for flying large passenger aircrafts. In addition to theoretical knowledge, students will gain a high level of practical skills, supported by state-of-the-art simulators and brand new digitally instrumented aircraft.
